In 2023 there has been a huge increase in the purchase of heat pumps

The first half of this year saw a remarkable increase in heat pump purchases, with an impressive increase of over 80% compared to the same period in 2022. A total of approximately 85,000 heat pumps found their way into households. Forecasts from the industry association indicate that 2023 will end with sales of around 170,000 heat pumps.

Analysis of the Rise

This exponential growth can be attributed primarily to the implementation of heat pumps in recently built homes. Approximately 50,000 of these homes are equipped with advanced heat pump systems. Furthermore, upcoming regulations, which will ban the sale of new central heating boilers from 2026 onwards, are stimulating this current growth. This prospect has led to accelerated adoption of heat pump technology, not only by industrial players but also by consumers.

Benefits of Heat Pumps

The heat pump, which not only provides efficient heating in winter but also cooling in summer, offers numerous advantages. Its versatility extends to underfloor, ceiling, and wall heating, as well as heating water, swimming pools, and domestic hot water. Furthermore, heat pumps are distinguished by their impressively long lifespan, with some models lasting up to 30 years. This durability goes hand in hand with low-maintenance properties, meaning they rarely require attention.

Subsidies for heat pumps

A crucial factor contributing to this remarkable increase is the availability of national subsidies. Under the Sustainable Energy Investment Subsidy (ISDE), the government awarded a whopping €60 million more in subsidies for heat pumps in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. However, with only about 40% of the original subsidy amount remaining, it is advisable to act quickly to take advantage of this scheme.
