In 2023 there has been a huge increase in the purchase of heat pumps

The first half of this year has seen a remarkable increase in the purchase of heat pumps, with an impressive increase of over 80% compared to the same period in 2022. A total of around 85,000 heat pumps have found their way into households. Forecasts from the trade association indicate that the year 2023 will end with sales of around 170,000 heat pumps.

Analysis of the Rise

This exponential growth can mainly be attributed to the implementation of heat pumps in recently built new homes. Approximately 50,000 of these new homes are equipped with advanced heat pump systems. In addition, the upcoming regulations, in which no new central heating boilers may be sold from 2026, stimulate the current growth. This prospect has led to an accelerated adoption of heat pump technology, not only by industrial parties but also by consumers.

Benefits of Heat Pumps

The heat pump, which not only serves as efficient heating in winter but also as cooling in summer, offers numerous advantages. Its versatility extends to underfloor, ceiling and wall heating, as well as heating water, swimming pools and sanitary water. In addition, heat pumps are distinguished by their impressively long service life, with some models lasting up to 30 years. Their durability goes hand in hand with low-maintenance properties, which means that they rarely require attention.

Subsidies for heat pumps

A key factor contributing to the remarkable increase is the availability of national subsidies. Under the Sustainable Energy Investment Subsidy (ISDE), the government has awarded a whopping €60 million more in subsidies for heat pumps in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. However, with only around 40% of the original subsidy amount still available, it is advisable to act quickly to benefit from this scheme.
