The advantage of an expansion vessel, also called a pressure vessel, is that it has a 30% draw-off reserve, meaning the pump switches on when the pressure vessel is 30% empty. This means the pump needs to be switched on and off less often.

The capacity of an expansion tank has a significant impact on this. The larger the tank capacity, the lower the pump's start rate. It's important to note that the number of pump starts per hour affects the pump's lifespan. In principle, the fewer pump starts, the better, with a maximum of 20 per hour.
