A gravel tray is used to drain rainwater from a flat roof. The gravel tray consists of a plate, a leaf trap, and a downpipe. The diameter of the downpipe depends on the amount of rainwater to be drained.

A 45 degree gravel tray is used if a mastic corner or mastic screed is used on the roof.

Discharge capacity

As a rule of thumb for the drainage capacity of a rainwater drain, 1 cm² of drain opening area is used for every 1 m² of roof surface. Depending on the required rainwater drainage area, one or more drains/downpipes are used.
