This Watts Microflex HP insulated ground pipe is used as an underground pipe for heating and cooling water for connecting a monoblock heat pump.

The flexible, insulated ground pipe is equipped with two yellow heating pipes and two sheaths for electrical cables. This makes it easy to connect the outdoor unit to the heat pump.

Properties

  • Light weight.
  • Corrosion-free.
  • Maintenance-free.
  • Long lifespan.
  • Environmentally friendly production.
This Watts insulated ground pipe has a maximum operating temperature of 85°C with a maximum pressure of 6 bar for central heating systems. For water systems, the maximum operating temperature is 85°C with a maximum pressure of 10 bar. For a short period, the pipe can withstand a peak temperature of 95°C.

Material

The insulated Microflex HP ground pipe consists of several layers:
  • The ribbed outer layer is made of HDPE and is UV-resistant. The inner layer is made of LDPE. Together, these two layers provide extra flexibility along the length and protection against external pressure.
  • The insulation layer is made of cross-linked polyethylene foam, which ensures that there is almost no heat loss.
  • The heating pipes are made of PE-Xa, where the X stands for cross-linked and the A for quality.
  • The sheathing tubes for the electrical cables are made of flame-retardant modified polyolefin.

Quality mark

The pipe is manufactured according to ISO 9001 quality standards.

Assembly

To accommodate the potential effects of thermal expansion or contraction of Microflex media lines, the line must be routed within a hoseline and a fixing point is required. Failure to use these fixing points, or failing to anchor them, can result in serious damage to the piping network and the connected equipment.

Use a dust cap to close off the ground pipe on the indoor unit and the EPDM end cap on the outdoor unit.

Always perform a pressure test before closing the trench. The pressure test consists of a preliminary test and a main test.
  • For the preliminary test, apply 1.5 times the permitted working pressure, repeat this twice within 30 minutes with a 10-minute interval.
  • After 30 minutes the pressure must not have dropped by more than 0.6 bar.
  • The main test lasts 2 hours and must be carried out immediately after the preliminary test. The pressure must not have dropped by more than 0.2 bar after the test.

Other

Using dust caps on the ends prevents dust from entering the pipe. When connecting the pipe outdoors to a heat pump, waterproof end caps are mandatory. This prevents water from seeping into the insulation.
